Handmade Ajrakh Large Travel Wallet & Notebook Diary Set - Indigo Legacy (Set of 2)
ZWD01A
Handmade Ajrakh Large Travel Wallet & Notebook Diary Set - Indigo Legacy (Set of 2). An elegant gift set that beautifully unites two heritage crafts from different corners of India—Ajrakh block printing from Gujarat and embossed leatherwork from Bengal. The travel wallet, crafted in Ajrakh fabric and finished with richly textured leather, is thoughtfully designed with two spacious compartments for travel documents, multiple card slots, and a cloth-lined interior for durability. Paired with it is a compact, hand-bound notebook diary—lightweight and practical, yet full of artisanal character, making it ideal for jotting down thoughts, lists, or sketches on the go. A centuries-old block-printing tradition, Ajrakh is known for its intricate geometric and floral motifs in deep indigo and madder hues, created using natural dyes and resist-printing techniques. Bengal’s leather craft is admired for its fine embossing, where artisans imprint patterns onto supple leather, adding depth and elegance to functional accessories. Together, this set reflects India’s diverse craft legacy—functional, stylish, and rooted in tradition, making it a thoughtful choice for gifting or personal use.

Ajrakh
Possibly the oldest known method of block printing in India dating back to the Indus Valley Civilisation, Ajrakh printing uses only wooden blocks and natural dyes and is a long and laborious process that entails the precise synchronising of the print on both sides of the fabric before dyeing it one colour at a time. In Arabic, Ajrakh means blue or indigo, Which is dominantly used in Ajrakh printing and hence the word. Patterned in intense jewel like colors, the dominant colors are rich crimson and a deep indigo and bits of white and black to give definition to the geometric patterns. Ajrakh colors emerge best on cotton fabric. These days silk is also used. As wood absorbs the color better and more uniformly, only wooden blocks are used in Ajrakh printing.
