Featured alongside is a stunning neckpiece made using old 2 paisa coins. The front of the neckpiece is adorned with the coins and is held together with thick black band.Crafted using coins with hand thread work by Lambani artisans from Karnataka. The motifs and colors are inspired by traditional Lambani tribal jewelry. Lambanis are a gypsy tribe mainly inhabiting western Indian states including Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. A part of this tribal community is also found in the northern region of Karnataka. Women of Lambani tribes wear beautifully decorated clothes, and Jewellery is an essential part of their lifestyle. Traditionally, the Lambani women folk wore jewelry made of copper, white metal and silver. Their Jewelry has a raw and rustic appeal using thick cotton thread and metal pendants and beads. Entirely handcrafted, the Metal Smiths of the tribe create the Pendants used in the jewelry, that are oxidized or given a silver coating for the final finish. Each cotton bead is painstakingly made by the women. The process involves knotting of cotton yarn around a knitting needle (or any similar metal rod) to make beads of various sizes. The beads are then put through a cotton chain and the ends are pleated and knotted for a clean finish.
