Sarpat Grass that grows wild near water bodies, are a perfect example of how unlettered women in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, especially Bhadohi, to easily slip into their traditional roles as preservers of the environment and creators of beautiful things by using raw material that is bio-degradable, natural, organic and light to create utility items that are striking in their simplicity and appeal. Almost every woman in the village, of varying age groups, is engaged in the Bhadohi weaving, which is today a flourishing basket craft, turning out a wide variety of beautiful, high utility products.
