Brass Moulding Craft

An integral part of Indian culture and a common sight in most Indian homes, the practice of brass metal crafting dates back to ancient times in India. The art and techniques of working with metal right from mining to smelting & modeling of items was developed thousands of years ago. The original ‘Lost wax’ technique and traditional methods of sand casting are deployed by craftsmen, who work on moulding sheets of brass into exquisite objects of art or just as beautifully crafted items for home utility. Once the mould is ready, the artisan works on intricately engraving it with fine tools. It is an old craft of India and evolving socio-cultural influences enriched it further. The final finish is done using a mix of chemicals that impart the sheen and distinctive brass colour to the artifacts.
