This unique wall accent is an off-shoot from the famed Ganjifa cards. Ganjifa, an ancient Indian card game, was historically believed to have been brought to India and popularised during the Moghul period and gradually became popular amongst the kings and and kingdoms. Each region developed its own stye of Ganjifa paintings on the cards and featured here is the Mysore version. These were the foremost artistic creations used for playing cards, more so in princely States where kings patronised the art and the artists. . The Persian word ‘Ganjifeh’ means playing cards Ganjifa originated in Persia in around the 15th Century. The origin of Ganjifa cards are however traced in Persia and China, while scholars have also traced them to Arabian countries. NOTE - The image of the outer frame is indicative only.
