Pure Silk Shibori Bandhej Stole. A unique and beautiful craft technique, this elegant stole has a Shibori tie & dye body. Shibori is a resist dyeing technique that involves tying up the fabric in small knots with thread and then dyeing it to reveal a unique pattern once the threads are untied. There are certain linear and non-linear patterns that form the basic motif of a Shibori design. The chosen design is traced on paper and then transferred to a plastic sheet which is run through a sewing machine without thread. This creates a stencil with uniform tiny holes all along the outline of the design, which is then imprinted on a natural unbleached cloth, using a kerosene solution. With the marking done on the fabric, a running stitch is manually made with needle and thread along the design. Subsequently, tightening of the cloth is an important part of the Shibori process by pulling the two ends of the thread in opposite directions. Knots are then made to bind the cloth and not allow the colour to seep into it at the time of dyeing. The entire area on the fabric gets coloured other than spot within the knot.
