Summer Florals. Sanganeri Block Printed Chanderi Saree - Blue Flora (with blouse piece). Hailing from the village of Sanganer in Rajasthan and inspired by the beauty of the ancient, exquisitely landscaped ‘Baugs’ (gardens), this 500-year-old print is characterized by the usage of pale, subtle and tranquil colours with intricate and quite often enlarged standalone motifs (buttas) dominated by a variety of flora such as poppies, lilies, marigolds and sun flowers. In Sanganeri printing, the outline is printed first, followed by the inner motifs. The Sanganeri block printers are famed for their impeccable sense of aesthetics, finesse and ability in harmonizing the background colour of the cloth to that of the print to near perfection. Sanganeri prints are believed to have emerged in the 17th century when an number of craftsmen of that era migrated to Sanganer in Rajasthan, which by then was a thriving center of sun-dried dyeing processes. The then royal families of the state were the earliest appreciators of the art and under their patronage the craft flourished by leaps and bounds.
