A powerful symbolism of spiritual balance in the natural world that originated as symbols of good fortune on the walls of the Gond dwellings. Gond art is characterised by laborious ‘signature patterns’ and infills such as dots, dashes, fish scales, cross-hatching, waves, or repetitive lines creating a sense of movement and rhythm. The Gond Tribal community, one of central India's largest indigenous communities, draws its name from the Dravidian word ‘Kond’ meaning ‘green forests’ or ‘lush hill’.
